To talk eBooks, you have to look at their history. They have been around for forty (40) years. Yeah, that’s right, four decades. Now, the original format was drastically different than those of today, but the truth remains, they are here to stay. So, let’s look back so we can then turn our focus to the present and future.
First eBook was published in 1971, part of Project Gutenberg.
2007 – Amazon launches the Kindle
2008 – Sony releases the Sony Reader
2010 – Apple launches the iPad, Barnes & Noble launches the Nook and Nook color, Kobo Inc launches the Kobo eReader, sold in Borders
There are over 30 eBook devices on the market today. Many include Wi-Fi.
There are over 15 eBook formats available for these devices.
For every 100 printed books sold, there are 140 downloads for eBooks
Amazon sold over 22 million eBooks in 2010 alone
In 2010, eBooks grew by 208%, while printed books fell by 35%. Sales exceeded 263M
